March for Freedom with the Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass

JEWISH COMMUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY

On Monday, January 18, 2010 under the auspices of the Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass many members of the Jewish community will join together to help commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The traditional Freedom March lineup will begin in Heritage Hall at the Lexington Center at 9:30 A.M. The march will start at 10:00 AM. The Commemorative Program begins at 11:00 a.m.

This year's keynote speaker is nationally renowned economist and President of Bennett College, Dr. Julianne Malveaux, speaking on the topic, "MLK 2010: The Unfinished Agenda."

Please march with us under the banner of the Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass and participate in this very important community event. Be at Heritage Hall at 9:30 AM. Historically, the Jewish community has had a leadership role in the civil rights movement. It is important that we continue to have a presence.

When Martin Luther King, Jr.  preached his message of equality in America, American Jews immediately  understood that his cause was also theirs; they became involved and supportive of his struggle for Civil Rights helped galvanize the movement.
